How to Bulk Import Users to Ninety

Owners and Admins can use the Data Upload tool to bulk import users to the Directory. Navigate to Company Settings > Data Import or start from the Directory.

To bulk import users from the Directory:

  1. Click Directory from the left navigation.

  2. Click the Import users via CSV button on the top right of the page.

  3. Verify you're ready to proceed, then click Proceed.

  4. Download our template.

  5. Follow the directions on the Data Import page to fill out the template.

  6. Upload your file in Company Settings > Data Import.

Read through the sections below to learn how to prepare for a bulk upload.

Add licenses

Before uploading your file, you can add the number of licenses you'll need through the billing portal. We'll automatically add licenses to your account based on the number of Team Member, Manager, Admin, and Coach roles uploaded.

Create teams

One of the key benefits of the bulk upload process is getting your new users assigned to their teams in the same process. If you just created your company on Ninety or have more teams to add, be sure to create those teams before uploading your file.

Download the template

Click the Download template button on the Data Import page to download our .csv file template for bulk user uploading.

User roles

You can select each user's role by writing it in the "Role" column of the template. Anyone without an assigned role on the template will be automatically designated as a Team Member in Ninety, which requires a paid license. Here's a brief description of each user role.

Owner

Can view and edit company settings and all items within public and private teams. Is the only user who can delete the company account.

Admin

Can view and edit company settings and all items within public and private teams.

Manager

Can view and edit all items within their assigned teams. Can invite users and create new teams.

Team Member

Can view and edit all items within their assigned teams.

Inactive

Does not have access to Ninety but can be assigned a Seat on the Org Chart.

Observer

Has view-only access to items within assigned teams. Cannot own items such as Rocks, Issues, or To-Dos.

Coach

Can view and edit the entire company account. Cannot own items such as Rocks, Issues, or To-Dos.

For a full breakdown of what each role can do across all tools, see User Roles and Permissions.
