Rocks Insights Page
Our Rocks page in the Insights tool
includes three data visualization cards to assess your teams' performance on their quarterly goals. The cards are:
- Rock Progress, which is displayed as a stacked bar chart or donut chart.
- Milestones: Progress to Completion, which is a burndown-style chart.
- Milestones: Revised due dates, which is a bar chart.

Use the Team, Type, and Date range filters to locate the data you want to see.
Team Filter
The options shown in the Team filter depends on your user role:
- Owners and Coaches can see any team in the organization.
- Admins can see every non-private team in the organization.
- Managers and Team Members can see every team they're in (according to the Directory tool).
The “All” option shows all the teams the user has access to view. To view a specific team's data, click the Team dropdown and select one of your teams. Only one team can be selected at a time (excluding the “All” option).
Type Filter
The options shown in the Type filter include:
- All
- Team
- Company
- Department
- Company and Department
Date Range Filter
The options shown in the Date range filter include:
- Current Quarter (default)
- Previous Quarter
- Last 5 Quarters
- YTD (Year to Date)
Rock Progress Chart

On the Rock Progress Chart, you can see how your teams performed with their Rocks in past quarters and track their progress this quarter. Rock performance for every team on your account is available for users with Owner or Admin permissions.
Rock progress displays as a donut chart when viewing the current or previous quarter with the Date range filter; other date range options display a stacked bar chart.
The graph shows each Rock's status at the end of the quarter or its current status in the Rocks tool:
- Completed Rocks are shown in green
- On-track Rocks are shown in blue
- Off-track Rocks are shown in red
Click on any of the variables on the graph's legend to add or remove its visibility. For example, from the default view, you can click On-track to remove the On-track portions from each bar graph.
If a Rock was left “On-track” by the end of the team's quarterly/annual meeting, then it will still show as On-track for that previous quarter.
Rock Progress Chart Drill-In

Click the expanding arrows icon at the top right of the card to open a drill-in table of the data shown. The table displays the following:
- Rock Status (Off-track, On-track, or Complete)
- Title of the Rock
- Milestone progress bar (including the number completed and total Milestones)
- Team the Rock belongs to
- Owner of the Rock
- Time period, which includes the quarter and year of the Rock and the due date
- A more action button, which you can click to create a linked item
Milestones: Progress to Completion Chart

On the Milestones: Progress to completion burndown chart, you can see how successfully your team(s) completed their Milestones in the assigned date range. If you're viewing more than one quarter, the chart uses a different color for each respective quarter. When you're viewing more than one quarter at a time, the x-axis will display Weeks 1-14 instead of actual dates from your quarter.
Solid lines represent the number of Milestones created and completed by the end of each week; they move up when a new Milestone is added to one of the Rocks represented and down when a team member marks a Milestone completed.
Dotted lines begin with the total number of Milestones created at the beginning of the quarter and represent an ideal progression of completion based on steady progress.
You can hover over any week and line shown on the chart for detailed information, including the number and percentage of Milestones completed by that date.
Milestones Chart Drill-In

Click the expanding arrows icon at the top right of the card to open a drill-in table of the data shown. The table displays the following:

- Status (including the date it was completed if it's completed)
- Time period, which includes the quarter and year of the Rock and the due date
- Team the Milestone belongs to
- Owner of the Milestone, which could be different than the owner of the Rock
Milestones: Revised Due Dates Chart

The Milestones: Revised due dates chart shows how many of the selected Rocks had Milestones that changed due dates during the quarter.
Milestones Revised Date Chart Drill-In
Click the expanding arrows icon at the top right of the card to open a drill-in table of the data shown. The table displays the following:
- Date the Milestone was created
- Title of the Milestone
- Number of due date revisions
- Status (including the date it was completed if it's completed)
- Time period, which includes the quarter and year of the Rock, and the due date
- Team the Milestone belongs to
- Owner of the Milestone, which could be different than the owner of the Rock
Troubleshooting
Here are a few troubleshooting tips to help with the Rocks page in Insights.
- Company Rocks created before March 2025 are listed as Company and Departmental Rocks in Insights.
- The default date range is Current Quarter.
- As of January 2025, Insights uses the Rock's Quarter field to determine which quarter a Rock belongs to. For Rocks without a manually set Quarter, the system automatically assigns the quarter based on the Rock's due date aligned to the standard calendar year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't want a current Rock to be recorded in Insights after this quarter?
To prevent a current Rock from being recorded Insights after this quarter, delete it:
- Click Rocks from the left navigation.
- Right-click the Rock you wish to delete.
- Select Delete from the options shown.
How are each quarter's date determined?
Insights assigns Rocks to quarters using the Rock's Quarter field. If a Rock doesn't have a manually set Quarter, the system automatically assigns it based on its due date. Rocks with due dates past the middle of the quarter are grouped with that specific quarter. Here are the middle dates for each quarter:
- Q1: February 14th or 15th*
- Q2: May 16th
- Q3: August 15th
- Q4: November 15th
*The middle of Q1 depends on whether it's a leap year or not.
How are Rocks archived?
Our platform automatically archives your team's Rocks at the end of your quarterly meeting. You can also archive your Rocks manually:
- Right-click a Rock.
- Select Archive from the options shown.
The Insights tool will use the status of the Rock from when it was originally archived.
Which Rocks are accounted for in this data?
All Rocks are accounted for unless they were manually deleted by a user before their due date or before being archived.
Why did my Rock's quarter change in Insights?
As of January 2025, Insights improved how quarters are assigned to ensure data accuracy. For Rocks created in November 2024 or later without a manually set Quarter field, the system now aligns quarter values to the standard calendar year.
This update lays the groundwork for future fiscal calendar flexibility. Your active Rocks, Planning Board, ownership, status, Scorecards, and Meetings are not affected by this change.
Can I manually set which quarter a Rock belongs to?
Yes. You can manually set a Rock's Quarter field to ensure it appears in the correct quarter in Insights, regardless of its due date. This is especially useful for organizations using fiscal calendars.
To assign a quarter to a Rock:
- Click the Rock to open its details panel.
- Select the corresponding quarter in the Quarter dropdown.
